A member asked:

My gallbladder was still highlighted at the end of my hida scan. what does this indicate?

Probably nothing: Over the course of a routine hida scan, the gallbladder accumulates the radiotracer, so it is actually normal to see the gallbladder at the end of the scan. Even if you were given cck to cause the gallbladder to contract (this is how the ejection fraction is calculated) the gallbladder usually does not empty completely and will still be visible but probably a bit smaller.

Prob. normal: The visualization of the gallbladder at the conclusion of a hida scan is probably normal if it was identified within 1 hour.

Very common: Hida scan, patient injected intravenously with isotope extracted from blood stream by liver, excreted through bile duct and stored in the gall bladder.Cck, hormone, injected during second part of study to see how gall bladder responds. Normal ejection fraction in adults is above 35%. That means anywhere from 36% or more activity will remain in the gall bladder with normal study.
