An ear infection which is called acute otitis media is an infection of the middle ear. Children are at greater risk than adults to get ear infections. Ear infections often clear up on their own so treatment may begin with the management of pain with over-the-counter meds & monitoring of the problem. Hello, an “otitis” means inflammation of the ear. If the inflammation is in the ear canal, that’s otitis externa (swimmers ear) which usually is very painful to touch with drainage. Otitis media is inflammation behind the ear drum. Tylenol/Motrin can help for pain for either one. If OE, consider a swimmers ear drops. If OM use some afrin nasal spray but stop after 3 days. See your doc to confirm.
