Narcotics: This includes: morphine, codeine, alfentanil, fentanyl, heroin, Meperidine (demerol), methadone, oxycodone, hydrocodone, remifentanil, sufentanil, propoxyphene, hydromorphone. Many combination medications such as vicodin, Norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) contain these as well. This group can include any other drug that binds to the opioid receptor as its mechanism of action.

Narcs: Narcotic is a legal term, relating to schedule 1 meds (marijuana, heroin, pcp, lsd etc). Opiate means a naturally occurring alkaloid derived from the opium poppy (codeine, morphine, thebaine). Opioid is any semisynthetic med which binds the same opioid receptors as the opiates (hydrocodone, oxycodone, fentanyl, etc).
