A member asked:

I had an mri of my cervical spine. i was told by the radiologist that the screen showed that metal. there's no metal on or in me. why did she ask?

Routine safety: Mri uses a very powerful magnet. Before entering the MRI machine, patients are carefully screened to ensure they do not have certain types of metal in or on them. If certain types of metal are placed in an MRI machine, they can dislodge, move or heat up causing injury. In addition, some types of metal implants, while safe for mri, may interfere with and/or distort the images.
