Alas: There are no safe meds for curbing hunger enough likely to overcome the appetite effect. However, different medications for bipolar have different effects; some do not usually cause weight gain. As noted, supplements may help some. Depending on your son's age you or only he may discuss alternatives with his psychiatrist. Controlling the bpd is certainly goal #1, weight gain should be considered.
