A documented "36 week" pregnancy is technically "pre-term", but if the infant has respiratory problems, the addition of steroids can reduce the problems. "Due dates" are frequently inaccurate, so 36 weeks is generally not a concern.

If accurate as 36 weeks, it is pre-term. As many as 1/2 of the infants born at 36 weeks can end up requiring higher level hospital care due to premature lung disease. That said, survival rates for 36 week infants is excellent.

The gestational age of less than 37 weeks is considered pre term. Late pre term is usually 34 to 36 weeks gestational age.
