is it normal to cough up some mucus 24 hours after an upper gi endoscopy?

Yes : You had a procedure that can certainly cause slight irritation of the esophageal mucosa or mucositis. Often, a thicker mucus is formed from the irritation that you can swallow or cough up . It should clear relatively quickly. If it perists more than a week, call your doctor

No: But not sure how it can related to the endoscopy unless an aspiration event occurred. Discuss further with your pcp.
