See a dentist: Have him seen by a dentist to determine if he has gingivitis or periodontal (gum) disease. That would be the most likely cause. When was his last visit to the dentist for a check-up and cleaning? There are other dental and medical possibilities, some of them more serious, so make sure he is seen and don't let this go untreated. Even if it's only a gum problem, you don't want him to lose teeth!
