A member asked:

My fiance had blood drawn from her arm then about an hour later her arm swole up badly and bruising around it, what could of happened?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Probably a hematoma.: The vein that had blood drawn from it likely continued to bleed creating a hematoma. She can elevate the arm and apply warm compresses to the area to help the hematoma go away. If her arm continues to swell, call your doctor. When she goes for her next blood draw, have her hold pressure on the vein for at least 10 minutes after the blood draw to help prevent this from happening again.
