Viral or bacterial: If she has bilateral pneumonia is it could be viral or bacterial. Your doctor must feel your daughters illness may be viral and that is why he is recommending fluids. A blood count might help to distinguish between the two. Also viral cultures might also help.

Temperature monitor: If your daughter appears well and does not have a high temperature, it is more likely to be viral. Keeping her well hydrated and monitoring her temperature is important in addition to following up.
