Kind of...: With diabetes you should definitely avoid sugary beverages but be careful of beverages with artificial sweeteners. Artificial sweeteners may increase your hunger craving, making blood sugar control all the more difficult, so it may be best to avoid soda in general. Naturally flavored carbonated (seltzer) water would give you the satisfaction soda provides without the artificial additives.

Not the best: Water or crystal lights are better for diabetic. Coke zero is better than regular coke but it might make you more hungry or crave sweet even more. As always, try to do thing in moderation.

Unclear : There is recent evidence to suggest that artificial sweeteners may contribute to Insulin resistance. This is far from proven, but something to think about. It would make for a good discussion to read other health tap physician views as well and certainly ask your own doctor. We tell our patients that the only beverages necessary in their diet are milk and water.
