Those patients are often referred for spine evaluation by their plastic surgeons to assess for structural spinal anomalies prior to reduction mammoplasty (breast reduction).

Maybe: You won't necessarily have back problems due to your large, heavy breasts. However, many women describe significant pain in their neck, shoulders and upper back due to large breasts. If you do begin to experience pain, seek a consultation with a plastic surgeon.

Yes, for sure!: Large breasts change the mechanics of walking, running, sitting and even standing. The effect of tight, heavy bra on shoulders and neck muscles is profound. Breast reduction does not have to be a procedure with large and sightly scars. There are options with smaller recovery and much reduced incision lines. Consult a board certified plastic surgeon who specializes in breast surgery asap.

Not necessarily: Just because you have large breasts doesnt mean you are destined for back problems. Only get a reduction if you want smaller breasts and/or they are symptomatic- causing problems.

Usually: Most women with breasts your size eventually end up with back symptoms. Think about it, you have anywhere from 5-8 more lbs. Of breast tissue than a woman with a c cup, and all of this is putting strain on your neck, back, and shoulders. But this does not happen to all. Only consider the surgery if you are having problems and are unhappy with your breasts. It is fantastic for the right person.
