A member asked:

Is being attracted to your psychiatrist something that can be discussed and overcome, or should the pt be referred to another physician?

Discuss: Positive (or negative) feelings toward one's psychiatrist or therapist are normal & expected. Freud called it "transference". Even sexual attraction is common, although an ethical doctor never permits it to become action. Discussing such feelings can help you learn about yourself, & will make the doctor-pt relationship feel less awkward. All thoughts & feelings are safely discussed in therapy.

Transference: Should be discussed they interfere with your treatment--if they persist see someone else they used to say the best therapist is one you slightly dislike.
