Infection: Any sudden change in a joint replacement represented by new onset of swelling, pain or stiffness could indicate an infection until proven otherwise. You are still very early out from surgery so this could be just muscle but if the joint looks swollen and you've lost motion i would advise a prompt f/u with your surgeon.

Lots of things: 36 holes on the golf course, too much tennis, a lot of shopping, a vacation with lots of stairs, uneven surface walking on the beach or cobblestone, a twist that was more than usual, carrying lots of packages, lifting your grandchild the wrong way, getting in your low car and driving to long. So many things. Not unusual for 18 months to have swelling and stiffness. Only worry is infection.
