Reassurance.: 6000mg kcl (about 80 meq) is not an excessive daily amount for an individual with normal kidney function. Just to put things into perspective, an average baked potato has nearly 1000mg of elemental potassium. Potassium doesn't really have a direct effect on the kidney function per se, but kidney dysfunction can have an effect on eliminating excess potassium from the body.
