I have occasional irregular breathing for a week now. when i inhale my body inhales more air than the normal pattern. this happens 1 in 90 inhales.

Sigh: This sounds like a sigh. Sighs are extra big breaths as you describe. They occur naturally in some adults at sleep. They are associated during wakefulness with anxiety and hyperventilation syndromes. They may also occur with sleepiness or after a meal.
