A normal reflex: This is considered a normal reflex for a baby of this age as long as the baby starts breathing again after 20-25seconds. Another consideration may be a stuffy nose. Make sure that the baby's nostrils are clear. If at any time the baby becomes blue take him to the er non stop.

The way to find out : If it's periodic breathing ( which is okay) or periods of apnea is to have your pediatric check your baby. You can try to count how many seconds elapse before the next breath so you can tell his pediatrician. The pediatrician may order studies that will determine if this is a problem.
