A member asked:

I have been smoking for 10 years. both mother n father parents had cancer , my mother has to. what are my chances of getting cancer?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Smoking Risk: A positive family history increases your chances by multiples of 2 or more over the "general" smoking population. Having said that, your baseline risk depends in how many "pack years" you have smoked. Look at the charts here===>http://www.Cancerresearchuk.Org/cancer-info/cancerstats/causes/lifestyle/tobacco/tobacco-and-cancer-risk and you will see that after 20 years, your risk increases 5-fold.
