Protect endometrium: Women with chronic anovulation, which may present with irregular periods including amenorrhea (no periods), are at increased risk of developing endometrial hyperplasia, which may progress to endometrial cancer. While not trying to conceive, use of hormonal contraceptives or regular Progesterone withdrawal may decrease risk of endometrial pathology. Speak with gyn regarding this concern.

Not OK: Long periods of time without menses with a history of pcos increases your chances of developing endometrial hyperplasia which can turn into endometrial cancer (cancer of the uterus), so its not ok at all.

Not really okay: It's ok to skip periods if it's because you are on medication to make you skip, like some birth control pill regimens. Without medicine it's okay to miss a 'few' periods, but it's definitley not okay to have only 2-3 periods a year. You should ask your doctor about what he means.
