Ice and support: I don't know how long you have had pain in the ankle, but the first treatment for any skeletal injury is rice, rest, ice, compression and elevation. M if this does not relieve your ankle pain ijna few days, see a podiatrric physician or a foot orthopedist.

Ankle Sprain: Ankle sprains are very common injuries. There's a good chance that while playing as a child or stepping on an uneven surface as an adult you sprained your ankle--some 25,000 people do it every day. http://www.aofas.org/footcaremd/how-to/foot-injury/pages/how%20to%20care%20for%20a%20sprained%20ankle.aspx

Many posibilities: Ankle pain is a symptom with many possible causes. Injury, arthritis, gout, infection and fracture could all be the reason. A full history with a complete exam of the involved joint is important here. I would urge you to see a doctor to discuss this matter further and to obtain a full evaluation.
