My homocysteine level was 13.5. i have high blood pressure & sinus tachycardia, on toprol (metoprolol) 50 mg xl daily! is that level of 13.5 dangerous. i'm 18!

Values below 9 best.: Values below 9 are associated with lower cardiovascular risk. Regular Folic Acid is not effective in reducing risk, possibly because some people lack the enzyme which converts it to its active form, methylated folic acid. With that in mind, some physicians prescribe methylated Folic Acid to reduce homocysteine; however, studies supporting this are still lacking. Focus on your BP control.

Too High: High homocysteine is associated with many chronic degenerative diseases. Levels should be <8. You may benefit from b12, folate, (folic acid) b6, trimethylglycine. Hypothyrodism will raise your homocysteine levels.
