Things to Try: Where nipple shields, sometimes they help the nipple protrude. Sometimes gentle traction from your fingers, a breast pump, or a modified open ended and inverted 20 cc syringe can make a small pump to help draw out the nipple. Despite all attempts, sometimes the nipple doesn't evert more. An option then is to pump breastmilk and feed breastmilk via a bottle.

Rule out pathology: First and foremost, see a doctor to evaluate. Have a mammogram and ultrasound. If there are benign findings, or, if chronic, there are procedures to correct. The results of these procedures are relatively modest. Always rule out pathology first.
