Hard to say: The list of things that could cause this are long. Your doctor obviously feels that it could be a bone problem. The nuclear bone scan is very sensitive for almost anything going on in the bone, so if it is negative, you can pretty much exclude that the bone is causing your pain. One thing it is not good at picking up is multiple myeloma but that is really rare in your age group.

Many causes: Back pain has many etiologies which depend on high or low symptoms. Low back pain is more common. In creased bone metabolism on scan can be seen in fractures, forms of arthritis, infection, and tutors . Other causes not seen on bone scan are disc problems. Thoracic problems are usually more related to osteoporosis and fractures.
