Not sure?: You didn't say whether it is your thumb side or little finger side which hurts. Possible causes include nerve entrapment(carpal tunnel or ulnar nerve entrapment). Overuse tendinitis, arthritis. These are all common causes. Less common causes would be circulation problems, raynauds or other type of rheumatoid like syndrome. If it keeps up get it checked out by a hand surgeon.
