How severe?: If your symptoms are mild it is probably fine to continue to treat symptomatically. I would avoid using a nasal decongestant spray (afrin or similar) for more than 3-4 days in a row. Nasal saline spray (salt water) would be fine. If your symptoms are moderate-severe then you may have a sinus infection and might need an antibiotic.

Dear dr. I have a painful ear infection for 2 weeks now. I visited 2 chemists. 1st was given Aurone and sinus medication including nasal spray . 2nd gave cortisone tablets for fluid in ear, and sinus meds. Ear still not cleared up.
Ct scan of chest and sinus clear.. Still have mucus in my throat every day..3 months! tried nasal spray, Mucinex (guaifenesin) and antibiotic. Not better..Help!?
