No cures: There is no cure for fibromyalgia but there are medications that can provide reasonable control in most cases. Have your sister see a rheumatologist if she has not done so already.

See pain physician: Chronic pain is very common and a very treatable illness. If your sister was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, she must have seen a physician who diagnosed her. She could consult with him or her as a start. There are many medications, both traditional opiates as well as other medicines, that are very helpful with fibromyalgia. Physical therapy is also needed for best results.

Physical therapy usually has no value for fibromyalgia. Acupuncture studies are equally unimpressive. Most FM is handled by rheumatologists.

While I agree that the best care is provided by rheumatologists for fibromyalgia, it's somewhat like my field of Psychiatry--most patients are seen and treated by their family physicians. I have found that many patients are depressed, overweight, and have little physical exercise. Physical therapy has provided a motivation for movement and range of motion, which I believe to be useful.
