No max dose: Controlled substance like oxycodone, hydrocodone, morphine and others don't have a celing (or maximum) dose. We treat to effect. The body develops tolerance to the drug. However, if something is not effective, then we need to reasses the situation. Pain is complex, so many time we need to use combination modalities, and consult with colleagues.

Oxycontin: There is no typical dose. If you are already on an opioid and need to switch then a rough conversion is made , however if this is the first medication then you always start low and titrate up to an effective dose.
