A member asked:

Could fibromyalgia be local rather than generalized.i have pain in the back muscles that can be either in the upper or lower back.help

Not really: The diagnosis is based on a pain pattern in all four quadrants of the body, so a localized pain pattern is unlikely to be fibromyalgia, if just localized back pain, search for explanation within that area.

No: You must meet the national academy of rheumatology's criteria for fibromyalgia in order to be diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Localized pain will not meet the diagnostic criteria. Localized spinal pain can be due to many other causes. You should have a good spinal examination by a board certified physician.
