Depends: Obviously if your thyroid therapy is not optimal you will have swelling and inflamation. So treating this to optimal levels with good labs is essential. Lupus tends to flair up. So pts are periodically on Prednisone wich can help with inflamation but cause swelling with salt and water retention. Dieuretics may be helpful with this. If it a frequent occurrence then immunosupression may be needed.
