A member asked:

Are there any benefits to immediate cord clamping if a newborn is not in danger?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends on situation: & who decides decides the risks. Some want to delay clamping so baby retrieves blood from the placenta, but sets up a risk that baby could get too much & end up with thick blood that can cause a stroke or kidney damage. The timing of cord clamping is best left up to the one with the best idea of the overall picture, which will be the delivering doc.If concerned, express your ideas before delivery.
