Worrisome diagnosis: GBS in a germ common to the intestines & about a 3rd of women carry it in their genital tract at any time. While it occasionally causes a simple urinary tract infection in women, its most worrisome effect is on the newborn. After rupture of fetal membranes, the germ can invade the moist fluids surrounding baby prior to or during delivery & invade the lungs of the newborn.Survival requires early Rx
