Voice box swelling: You ask a good question about laryngeal pharyngeal reflux. This problem of acid spilling from the esophagus to the voice box (larynx) causes swelling around your vocal cords. The symptom of having something in your throat arises from the nerves detecting the swollen membranes. Many other causes of swelling in this area will mimic the symptom.(post nasal drip, infection, foreign body, masses, etc).
