Not common: This is not a common injury. Knowing the cause would help. Most nerve injuries will heal with time. This nerve provides both muscular control and sensation. If there is no weakness of the muscles that close your legs then that is a good sign. Pain should improve with time and meds to control neuropathic pain. This pain may ultimately turn to numbness in the same area.

Guess needed: Since this is all the information I have, I will have to infer what happened. This is normally caused by stretching during a surgery. Rest and physical therapy are helpful. Recovery may occur in weeks. If the injury occurred for some other reason, that would affect the answer, however.
