A member asked:

Does the brain also appear when doctors conduct a whole body pet scan?

Yes.: When the entire body is imaged in a pet scan (usually in a search for tumors and/or metastases), all functioning organs will be shown, including the brain.

Yes: When a whole body pet-ct scan is ordered, it usually includes from the top of the head through the mid-thigh. That being said, the brain is very metabolically active and appears very "hot" on pet, so it is not very sensitive for detecting metastatic disease in the brain. Often, depending on the type of cancer and other factors, the screening may also include a brain mri.

Thank

Yes.: A "whole body" pet scan should be exactly that: the whole body.
