Pleurisy: A rib click is not normal. You may have coughed so hard you may have fractured rib bone or cartilage. You may also have developed pleurisy which is an inflammation of the covering of the lung. Please follow-up with your doctor and ask for a chest x-ray. Viral coughs can develop secondary bacterial infections. There is also a resurgence of pertussis( whooping cough).
