HCG vs LH hormone: Pregnancy tests (which measure the pregnancy hormone hcg) and ovulation kits (which measure lh hormone, which is structurally very similar to hcg) can cross react, particularly if you are using generic or inexpensive kits. Therefore it would be possible for a pregnant person to have a (+) ovulation tests, and an ovulating women with an lh surge have a positive pregnancy test.
