Not directly: They is some evidence that shows damage to parts of the brain resulting from the disease causing swallowing difficulty but not necessarily from hypertrophy of the tongue.

Not by itself.: Lou gehrig's disease, als, is a neuro-degenearative disease. You would see muscle weakness, fatigue, impairment of the muscles in your arms and legs. In its later stages, speech and breathing are affected.
