A member asked:

I want to get an ultrasound on my coroided arteries as a preventative measure. my doc said it isn't needed. would he do it if i pay out of pocket?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Carotid IMT?: I wonder if you are referring to the carotid imt scan, an ultrasound procedure to look at the thickness of the carotid walls, and thereby evaluate the presence of cholesterol plaque build-up. It is a non-invasive screen, meaning it's safe. At your young age, i wouldn't imagine it would be covered by insurance. It wouldn't hurt you - but there might be better uses for your health care dollar.
