It band: Several things can be associated w it band. A tight it band can cause lateral knee pain distally particularly in runners. It can snap near the hip. Physical therapy directed at hip abductor strengthing and special stretches for it band can be beneficial. Avid runnets thwn will need to continue to keep these areas strong and stretched out to prevent it from coming back.

IT Band Syndrome: It band syndrome can be due to inflammation of the band itself or the bursa along the band. Stretching is the mainstay of treatment. Cross your feet and lean over the right and then left sides trying to touch the sides of your ankle with the same side arm to help stretch. It may come back despite your best effort. Surgery has been performed to lengthen the it band in worst case scenarios.
