Barium enema: The procedure is usually not that invasive but if you tolerate valium or even Ativan (lorazepam) it will make procedure easy.

It is normal: It is very understandable to have anxiety about a be. Let the tech know that you are feeling anxious and ask any questions you have until you feel comfortable proceeding. Once underway, the best thing is to just breathe. Breathing does wonders for relaxation. Hopefully your team will do whatever it takes to make it as comfortable as possible for you. It won't take too long. Good luck!

Bowel prep: I would also like to emphasize the importance of breathing during the procedure. Also, the procedure will go much smother and be much more successful if you complete the bowel prep. A totally clean colon is the key to a good barium enema.
