Barium enema: It is painful, and usually useless except for verymspecific circumstances. If you primary ordered it, see a, gastroenterologist. They miss 50% of polyps, and 15% of cancers.

It can be: Barium enema can be uncomfortable, but it is almost universally tolerated without the need for sedation or anxiolytics. It consists of a small tube inserted into the rectum, followed by the instillation of barium and air. If the distention of the colon is too uncomfortable to tolerate, the procedure can be aborted at any time.
