Typically no: Typically, there are no medicines that are important in people with atrial septal defects. People with ASD can have heart rhythm problems. Which can be helped by medication.

Depends: Discuss this with your physician. All medicines have indications. Potential issues with an ASD include excess fluid and increased pulmonary artery pressures. You like do not have significant elevated pulm art pressures though if surgery is planned. Many patients with asds do not require medications though. Again, discuss with your physician.
