A member asked:

What inexpensive, non-prescription chemical has good antibacterial properties?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends where used: For external use (skin) either isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol or hydrogen peroxide has antimicrobial properties. Internally, there are some natural antibacterial sugar alcohols, particularly xylitol. However, i would not say these can be used to treat infections.
