A member asked:

Are antidepressants and pills like similar to that actually bad for your health?

Risk benefits: Not sure what u mean "like that". All meds have side effects /risks, and sometimes there is a rush to pills instead of skills which can be learned in psychotherapy with a clinical psychologist. But the reality is, people lose jobs, relationships, suffer health effects and commit suicide when not properly treated. Todays antidepressants are far, far safer than the old meds. Its risk v benefit.

Help vs hurt: There are many different antidepressants, some risking more side effects in certain areas than others. Also some are more dangerous in overdose. After an evaluation, a psychiatrist selects the best medicine for the person based on symptoms & other health conditions. Ongoing, untreated depression is much worse for your health. Pharmaceuticals aren't the only ways to help depression, though.
