Perspective: Sometimes just knowing that one in ten people will become clinically depressed at some point in time in their life may help people develop the perspective that this is nothing unusual. In fact, antidepressants are amongst the most frequently prescribed medications in the United States. So there is plenty of company. Psychotherapy can help with some of the stigma and self-esteem issues.
