Hole in the lungs, dr. is going to do a probe. what exactly is a "probe"?

Likely: Bronchoscopy, a look through the tubes that deliver air to the lungs, or thoracoscopy, a scope passed into the chest on the affected side to inspect the lung, its lining, sample cells, even do biopsy.

Good question: "probe" is not a term I have heard in response to "hole in the lungs". Critical for you to discuss with your physician what exactly is diagnosis or suspected diagnosis, what they recommend. Before any procedure you should have a reasonable understanding of what is to be done, why, what is expected to be accomplished by procedure and what are risks/benefits/alternatives. Be well, best wishes.
