Absolutely: ≥95% of dm is type ii, aka Insulin resistance, & this commonly progresses over 20-40 years before reaching hba1c 6.5%, ada level for DX dm. As long as the pancreas beta cells can keep ↑ insulin+amylin release enough to keep glucose below this level, then ≤6.5%. Yet optimal health, from human research: hba1c 5.0%. ↑ steroids, internal or external, always ↑ Insulin resistance, even for just a day.
