Can someone explain to me how come patients with septic shock be treated with insulin and corticosteroids?

Inflammation/high BS: Sepsis incites the overactivity of inflammatory cells. There are studies showing that by suppressing that the effect of sepsis is blunted. The use of corticosteroid is one of them, as it affects the activity of the inflammatory cells. It is a steroid so it causes high bs and Insulin is used to counteract that side effect. Also bs can rise in patients due to stress hormones especially if dm present.

To improve survival: Steroids may be used in septic shock that persists despite max support. The adrenal may suffer during shock and glucose metabolism is off , necessitating Insulin especially when giving steroids. The steroids are in low to intermediate dose. High dose steroids in septic shock are associated with higer mortality.
