Depends: Obviously the primary effect is weight loss. There are improvements in diabetes and heart disease risk. The gastric band does not cause any nutritional deficiencies, but the roux en y surgeries can. These need to be followed up closely by your bariatric specialist.

Good and bad.: Mostly good long term effects related to weight loss and all the inherent health benefits of such. Three negatives - hair loss (does come back), redundant skin (removable surgically) and gallstones are possible in the long term.
