Subungual hematoma: If the discoloration is from the injury, the cause is bleeding underneath the nail. The nail may need to be removed to allow for new healthy nail to grow. If the discoloration began some time after the injury, i would advise having a physician take a biopsy of the nail to rule out melanoma which can cause a similar discoloration of the nail.

Leave it alone : The nail being discolored and not painful is not a threat to you. If the nail color is a bother to you- you can have the nail removed perminantly.
